My Havana

To me, what’s really special is the university where I studied. It was a place that brought a change into my life, as well as being a really amazing experience given the economic circumstances of the country and such horrible memories, they’re really beautiful. Also very special, and something which to me is an absolute privilege, is having lived in such times, you know, it’s a real privilege to be able to recount them, times which shaped you, which formed your personality within such a complex situation. And I think they’re moments for which I give thanks for having lived them, for having participated, and even though I couldn’t see it then, it now seems incredible, times which certainly enriched you as a person, in your education as a creator, as an artist. And, I mean, I’m incredibly fortunate, and that’s why ISA – Higher Institute of Art - now means such a lot to me, seeing La Habana from the perspective of a student, or travelling from one province to another, to a new city. It’s also like a kind of glass bubble, of people’s lives, in which everyone is in their own way very special, or where a number of people of a similar age are finding themselves a new way to speak, from different viewpoints, musicians, actors, such an experience has a real impact, a real impact, it’s a time which changes you a great deal, which really helps you to set out your direction, your future.
