“Los Aldeanos are the wild boys of Cuban hip hop. They’re the ones I heard on my first jaunt when I slipped into a hip hop freestyle on the outskirts of town. That jam’s been closed down now but the Aldeanos have found new spots to develop this growing rap scene.”
Aldo and El B first performed together as Los Aldeanos (which translates, roughly, as The Villagers) in 2003. Fiercely independent, proud of their underground credentials and renowned for their conscious lyrics, their output has been impressive even by the most hyper-productive US standards: six stand-out albums not counting their solo productions. They’ve won awards too — most recently “Best Rap Group” on the Cuerda Viva television programme in 2009.
