“Talking of Kumar, I first heard him play at the Worldwide Awards in London last year and he blew me away. So we had to have him on the album and this was one of my favourite new tracks from him.”
Although he has only just released his debut solo album (Película de Barrio, 2009), Kumar’s name has been cropping up in every discussion of Cuban hip hop since 1998. A longtime member of the artist’s collective INTERACTIVO, which includes Telmary and producer Roberto Carcassés, he has a gift for articulating the shared black experience — the heritage that connects him to generations of the displaced and dispossessed.
