“Cubanito 20.02 are spreading the world with their addictive sound.”
Originally drawing inspiration from imported US hip hop culture, Haniel Gonzalez Martinez, Javier Duran Webb, and José Angel Sastre Perez (aka Flipper, El Doctor and White) brought their own roof-raising boom-bap to the streets of Havana in the mid-nineties as Primera Base. Regrouping in 2002 under the moniker Cubanito 20.02, the band is widely recognised as a pioneer of reggaeton in Cuba. Their hybrid sound encompasses the diverse rhythms of Cuba but remains rooted in hip hop fundamentals.
